GEICO and Drivers Ed Direct Team Up on Teen Safe Driving
NORTH HILLS, CALIF., February 17, 2006 - GEICO's "Real Teen Driving" DVD has recently become a part of the Drivers Ed Direct curriculum for California teens just learning how to drive.
Drivers Ed Direct chief operating officer, Eric Creditor, made the announcement today saying, "The addition of GEICO's Real Teen Driving video to the Drivers Ed Direct curriculum further supports our commitment to providing today's teens with a lesson plan that goes above and beyond the DMV's requirements. When student drivers see how other teenagers really drive with no parents or adults around, it gives them a better picture about how young drivers act behind the wheel. Some of it's good, but new drivers also make the kinds of driving mistakes that they should work on right from the beginning."
GEICO's Real Teen Driving video is an unscripted account of four Washington D.C. area high school students and their day-to-day driving behaviors. With parental permission, GEICO videotaped them with in-car cameras for several months to see how teens really did drive. Capturing common mistakes made by young drivers, the DVD also features the teens as they observe and evaluate their own driving experiences.
Nancy Pierce, GEICO's regional vice president in San Diego, pointed out, "Young drivers are in the highest risk driving category in the nation. In fact, the number one killer of young people, age 16-20, is auto accidents. We're also learning that teen drivers are also responsible for the deaths of their passengers and other drivers. We think this video will help young drivers identify the small mistakes they make before they become big ones."
